About Us Back Working For You

Canadian Federation of Agriculture

Wild Rose is the general farm organization representing Alberta producers at the Canadian Federation of Agriculture.  The Canadian Federation of Agriculture is the most powerful farm lobby group in Ottawa.  As a member, Wild Rose is able to ensure that the concerns of all Alberta farmers are addressed at the national and international levels.

Safety Nets

Wild Rose has actively participated on both the National Safety Net Committee and the Alberta Safety Net Coalition which were, in part, responsible for developing the Canadian Agricultural Income Support (CAIS) Program.  Wild Rose continues to work towards strengthening and clarifying the benefits of participating in CAIS.  Wild Rose supports the Canadian Federation of Agriculture in taking the necessary steps to ensure that the references margin in the CAIS program can be adjusted in order to reflect the prices of a normal market.

Agriculture Policy Framework

Wild Rose is one of the few groups in Alberta who were contacted to provide initial output into the Agriculture Policy Framework.  Wild Rose supports and insists that Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada assume the mandate of increased research and innovation as outlined in the Agriculture Policy Framework, including production research.  Wild Rose is working with other provincial farm organizations and the Canadian Federation of Agriculture in pushing to include producer input in the Agriculture Policy Framework.

Young Farmers

Young farmers are essential to a vibrant agricultural industry in the future.  Wild Rose supports both the Alberta Young Farmers and the Canadian Young Farmers' Forum.  Wild Rose is also a sponsor of the Outstanding Young Farmer Award.

Surface Rights

Wild Rose continues to monitor the issue of abandoned well sites and seismic holes. Landowners need proper protection and the energy sector must be held accountable.  In addition, Wild Rose is a member of the Appropriate Dispute Resolution Committee of the Energy Resources Conservation Board.  Wild Rose is working towards changes to the Alberta Surface Rights Act to ensure an annual payment plan to provide equitable compensation for landowners.

Canadian Wheat Board (CWB)

From the beginning, Wild Rose has maintained it should be the producers, not governments, who decide how to market their grain. The CWB must be accountable and we have been actively working towards this goal with various representations to the CWB and the federal government. It is our belief that a fully elected Board of Directors of the CWB would provide all producers with the opportunity to express their opinions and to have those opinions acted upon.

Research and Development

Wild Rose has continually supported organizations, such as the Western Grains Research Foundation, that maintain objectives and focus on research.

Environmental Responsibility

Environmental and sustainable agriculture is a goal for all producers.  Wild Rose provides effective representation on several environmental committees including the Environmental Farm Plan Company, the Clean Air Strategic Alliance, the Land Agents Advisory Committee and the Industry Landowner Sub-Committee of the EUB.  Wild Rose is a primary sponsor of the Alternate Land Use Services proposal.
